Pruning And Trimming

Memorial of Saint Athanasius, Bishop and Doctor of the Church

My dear encountered couples:

No matter how wonderful we might be, we know deep down there is room for improvement. Right? Maybe we see defects and deficiencies in others without too much effort or passage of time, but when we look hard and long into our own mirrors we can all find some change in ourselves to be desired. What do you think? Agree?

Do you agree that your character and quality could be spruced up a bit? God does. And he is seeing to it that it gets done.

Like people who are always cutting their grass, trimming their bushes, weeding their flowers, God is always trying to trim away and weed out defects in us. He’s always trying to polish us up. Isn’t that what parents do with their children? Always trying to improve them? No matter how proud parents are of their children, they seem to be able to find something that can be improved in them.

God is a parent, our Parent, our Father. And he’s not going to quit on us until we grow to be the people he wants us to be.

I am the vine,” Jesus said, “and my Father is the vinegrower. He prunes away every barren branch, but the fruitful ones he trims clean to increase their yield.

Whenever you feel a pain or upset in your life, that’s just a little heavenly pruning and trimming taking place. It’s for your improvement - a sign God loves you.
