JESUS – THE CENTER OF OUR LIVES

Saturday in the Eleventh Week of Ordinary Time

My dear encountered couples:

Do you find your life going from one concern to another with very little breathing space in between? Concerns for your welfare and the welfare of others, problems, challenges, attractions, both enjoyable and disturbing never seem to come to an end.

Like the news media find one interest-catching occurrence right after the other to report on, our lives can seem like ongoing soap operas that seldom take a break for a commercial. We never seem able to get everything in our lives as we want it. There is always something else to do and worry about, even if it’s only something like keeping the house clean. And in the meantime, time moves on and we get closer to death.

Jesus is trying to get our attention centered on what is most important. “Stop worrying,” he says, “over money, and what you are to eat and drink. Your heavenly Father knows all that you need. Seek first his kingship over you, his way of holiness, and all your worries will be taken care of.”

Now Jesus is not a person blinded to reality like those who always wear rose—colored glasses. Remember, Jesus was human as well as divine. He experienced what we go through. His family had to struggle with problems, he had problems every day. He knows there are things we must attend to. But we must not put God on hold until we get everything done. If we do, we will find it too late; we will discover ourselves dead and God still not attended to.

Let us be sure to always keep God at the center of our interest, and Jesus Christ the most important person in our lives.
