LORD, THAT I MAY SEE
Monday of the Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time
My dear encountered couples:
The blind man asked for sight and he received it. There is no doubt that there are many things happening everyday around us that we don’t see. Our faith tells us that God is actively involved in our lives, always doing whatever is best for us. He recruits angels and saints who are filled with his love for others and allows them to help him with his work. Since we are so involved with the things we can see and touch in our material world, we might not even think that there is a world of activity that we do not see.
To be able to see the invisible, or rather to more often be aware of it, we need to make special effort to remind ourselves that what we see is not all there is. In fact, the more important activities are invisible to us, sort of like the activities that go on behind the scenes of a stage play. Without the expertise and the properly coordinated actions of those in the wings and behind the backdrops, the play would not go on for very long. No matter how gifted the actors they would not perform long nor well without the stage crew. The same with us on the stage of life.
Ask the Holy Spirit each morning to help you become aware of the activities of God and his invisible friends on your behalf. Ask him for the spiritual sight to see the meanings and reasons for things that happen to you. And try to live more bravely and calmly in the realization that you are not alone. You have a multitude on your side. God, his people and angels are with you.
I pray that you may sense them – and get to love them.
