The Importance Of Faith
Saturday in Sixth Week of Ordinary Time
My dear encountered couples:
The letter to the Hebrews tells us the importance of faith. It mentions some great people of faith. It tries to convince us that without faith in God we have no hope. You and I can expect great tests to our faith. Without tests, our faith will not grow.
That is what makes life often so hard. God is trying to strengthen us in faith. He is trying to get us to rely on him at all times, in all places, under all circumstances. And in order for that to happen, we must be shown, we must be taught, we must experience that no person and no thing is to be relied upon and trusted in preference to God.
When we are able to help ourselves to success, it is because God makes it possible. When other people are able to bring good into our lives, when our possessions become helpful to us, when anything at all makes our lives better, it is because God works in and through them, making them capable of doing good things for us.
It is always God through people and through things who provides us with what we need. We can do nothing of lasting good for others, they can do nothing of lasting good for us unless God acts through each of us. Eliminate God and nothing of lasting worth is possible.
“Faith is confident assurance concerning what we hope for, and conviction about things we do not see,” says Hebrews. The author is speaking about Faith in God. Pray for it, grow in it, and do your best to spread it.
