Careful, Someone's Watching!

Friday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time

My dear encountered couples:

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully.

Jesus was always on trial. He was always being watched, both by his friends and his enemies. It’s a wonder he wasn’t a nervous wreck. How would you feel if your every action was being watched? THEY ARE!

You are watched by friends, by strangers, by whomever, wherever you are, whatever it is you are doing. When you think you are all alone and no one is looking, maybe you are seen by spirits, good ones and evil ones both. Maybe your great, great, great grandmother is watching you.

One thing for sure: God sees you all the time. There goes all that privacy you treasure so much, even the privacy of your bathroom and your bed. We are always on view. Oh my! What should we do?

Somebody, was it Shakespeare, who wrote something like this? “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” If that’s the case, and if we always have an audience, if we are always being watched, I suggest we try to put on a performance worthy of a standing ovation when our curtain comes down. Not just an external performance either - for God sees deep into the hidden recesses of our hearts.

Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully.” So are we all. God have mercy on us!
