Your Best Investment In Life

Tuesday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time

My dear encountered couples:

Do you make investments? Most people do. Some of us in the stock market, others of us in a business venture, still others in children and friends. Is there anyone who doesn’t invest either money or time or love in someone or something?

Jesus tells us to invest in him.

Our stocks may take a tumble, our businesses might fail, our children may disappoint us, those we love may leave us, no matter how much we put of ourselves into them. But Jesus Christ guarantees that any investment at all that we make in him will be returned a hundredfold – some in this life, much more in the next. Let me put in my own words what Jesus is telling us in his gospel today.

“We have put aside everything to follow you,” said Peter to Jesus - with the insinuation, “What are we going to get out of it?” “I give you my word,” answered Jesus, “there is no one who gives up any of their things on earth for me who will not receive a hundred times more in this life and in the life to come. But it won’t be easy. All giving up for me, all investments in me, all your following of me will include pain and suffering.”

Living for Christ will not go without ample return.

How willing are you to take the leap of faith and make the best investment of your life?
