Saturday of the Third Week of Easter

Scriptural Readings: Acts 9:31-42; Psalms 116:12-13, 14-15, 16-17; John 6:60-69

My dear encountered couples:

Jesus had just finished his teaching on what we call Holy Communion. He had just told the people in Capernaum that they must eat his body and drink his blood or they would not see the inside of the gates of heaven.

This sounded ridiculous to them and so they turned their backs on Jesus and walked away. The twelve apostles were still there. So Jesus turned to them and asked, “Do you also want to leave?” Peter, being practical, answered, “Master, to whom shall we go?” Isn’t that the truth! Without Christ what else is there?

If you ever get tired of your faith, if you are ever tempted to give up Jesus Christ, prayer and Mass and the Church, ask yourself that same question. “To whom shall I go?” “What better can I find?”

Let’s face it: The world is a mess, the values of many people are absurd. Even if you do achieve fame and fortune, even if you become the most successful and the most envied person on the face of the earth, you lose it all when you die. The game will be over and your score will be ZERO when you croak.

So, like Peter be practical; resist every temptation to walk away from Christ. “Do you also want to leave?“ Jesus asked his apostles. “Master, to whom shall we go?” There ain’t nothing else!
