U.S. Independence Day
My dear encountered couples:
As we celebrate today the founding of the United States of America, we might wonder whether it is getting better or is it getting worse? Is it developing or declining, improving or deteriorating? Maybe that depends on who is asked. But I think it is quite obvious whether it is becoming more moral or less. Polls seem to show that lying and how we use our sexuality don’t matter to the majority of the people, as long as we get the job done that we are hired to do.
We were all created by God who gave us free will so that we can make our own choices, even if they are contrary to his choices. America was founded as the land of the free, where all its citizens are given the constitutional right to make their own choices - as long as they don’t interfere with the rights of others to make their choices.
But we should never forget this: Our choices not only affect our life in America, they affect our souls for better or for worse. Since we can’t see those effects in our souls, maybe that is why we should consider ourselves lucky to live in a country where there is freedom to choose — so that we can get a better picture of the effects of our choices on our souls. The condition of America just might be a visible sign for us of the condition of our souls. It might very well help us to see the results of our use of freedom. Do we like what we see?
Celebrate this 4th as you choose, live your life as you choose. But with the wisdom of God and according to the teachings of Christ. Only then can we expect America to get better and our souls to become holy. May God bless America - and us!
