MOVING ON IS HARD TO DO!
Friday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
My dear encountered couples:
Jacob and his family left their homeland and moved to Egypt. A famine in their land left them without enough to eat and required that something be done. Jacob’s long-lost son Joseph, whom he had thought was dead, was found in Egypt in a very high position of influence and importance. With him the family expected to get the food they needed to get them through the hard times.
If you’ve ever moved from your home town you know how hard it can be. No matter how much you might be looking forward to something new and exciting it is not easy to leave behind what you are used to and enter into new surroundings. It takes quite awhile to get adjusted. Sometimes it turns out well, other times things can happen that might make you wish you had stayed where you were.
It was great for Jacob and his family at first because they had an “in” through Joseph with the pharaoh. The highest power in the land was their friend. When he died things changed. A pharaoh came to power who was not kindly disposed toward the Jewish people and put them in slavery. That was to last for 400 years. How did they manage all that time. They prayed a lot and trusted in God.
When your plans don’t work out as you hope, when they might even turn into disaster, don’t do what some people do. Don’t go to drink or drugs or anything similar, certainly don’t give thought to doing away with yourself. Go to God! He loves you and will get you through everything. The Jews were finally saved from slavery to the Egyptians by God through Moses. God is making of you a saint through the happenings in your life. You are already undergoing salvation. Trust God. Good things lie ahead for you.
