Will You Be My Valentine?

Memorial of Saints Cyril, Monk, and Methodius, Bishop

My dear encountered couples:

Yesterday Jesus got angry with the Pharisees because they kept demanding signs and proof from him as to who he was. I said that I thought his many miracles were more than enough proof for them. But it seems his own disciples couldn’t read his signs any better than the Pharisees.

Are your minds completely blinded?” he asked his disciples. “Have you eyes but no sight? Ears but no hearing?” He had done all sorts of fantastic things in their presence and they still didn’t get it. I imagine that not only the Pharisees but his closest friends often frustrated him.

Today is that day of the year when signs are called for. We are reminded to give special signs to those we love. Our signs are flowers, candy, a piece of jewelry, some cologne or perfume, a Rolls Royce.

A sign of our love is a pretty card with even prettier words. We give a hug and a kiss and say, “Be my Valentine.” Isn’t that what Jesus was saying with all his miracles and patience? Isn’t that what he was saying when he died for US?

I love you,” he was saying. “Will you be my Valentine? And will you let me be yours?” This is a day for showing love. Shall we try showing some every day just like God does?
