FAITH … ANYONE?”

Saturday of the Thirty-second Week in Ordinary Time

My dear encountered couples:

“When the Son of Man comes, will he find any faith on the earth” That’s the question Jesus poses today. Let me personalize it a bit. “Will he find any faith in us?” We certainly are trying to make sure he does, aren’t we?

Our faith is very important to us. We are always doing things that we hope will make our faith stronger. We want to be ready for Christ when he comes at the end of our lives and at the end of the world. But the confusions of life are so many! There are so many things happening in our own personal lives and throughout the world that we can get confused and upset trying to deal with all of it. The problems, the sufferings, all that we experience and all that we hear is happening makes a peaceful and secure life impossible. What is the reason for all this? Why does God allow all this unrest?

We could look at it this way: Our faith is being tested. God has a purpose for everything he does as well as for everything he permits. It is all designed to work out best for everyone who trusts in him and tries to keep his commandments. In the midst of all that concerns and confuses us God has bigger issues at stake than we can imagine. We are to keep praying and keep trying to make our homes and the world a better place.

If our prayers don’t seem to be getting any answers, if our efforts don’t get the results we hope for, we must keep faith. God is working it all out. Our faith can become stronger or weaker depending on our attitudes in the midst of all this.

“When the Son of Man comes, will he find any faith on earth?” Let us give Jesus an answer to his question. “Yes, you will, Lord, in us.”
